Westward Expansion

The year is 1862. The President is Abraham Lincoln and you are a citizen in the Eastern region of the United States. You have never been a landowner before. You hear people talking about The Homestead Act which gives land to those willing to travel West and develop it. Will you be a pioneer and travel the Oregon Trail for 6 months to claim your land? Or, will you choose to stay put. What are your reasons for leaving on the trail or staying in your current home?

  1. I would stay because propobly a lot of people
Would want to o then most of the land would be taken and then you would have to go all the way back. Also what if your ones dye in the middle of the journey when you are halfway. That's why I would stay in my house.

  16. I would travel to Oregon because I think that we should own are own land so we can do what we want when ever we want to. We would be free, we could make our own rules, build our houses how we want to, and our animals and children would be free to rome around the land. I would make the sacrifice for this trip because its what is good for our families.
