Big Ideas - Westward Expansion

Now that we have arrived in Oregon, let's talk about the big ideas of Westward Expansion!

Did the pioneers achieve their goals? Were the hardships of the trail worth the final result? What changes did Westward Expansion bring?  Let's discuss the good, the bad and the final results of the trail!

  1. The Pioneers did achieve their goals. But, some hated the place. they had to stay there for a long time. But some thought it was worth it. They loved the place and they wanted to stay there forever. The indians did not like what the pioneers were doing to them. Some were peaceful and some were not.

  2. The pioneers achieved their goal! Some people liked it and some people didn't like it. Some people didn't even want to go. The westward brought less diseases more land and more good. They ran into good and bad Indians poisonous things and other stuff on the trail.

  3. Some pioneers achieved there goals. Do not forget that 1 out of 10 pioneers died on the trail. The westward expansion brought new land, more animals, and a new life.
It also brought angry and friendly native americans.

  4. I think most o the pioneers achieved their goal because they made it to Oregon city. Their where bad things on the trial like people dying from starvation or even dying from snake bites.

  5. I think a lot of the Pioneer's completed their goal to get to Oregon. However, about 2/10 of the people died (estimated). The Westward Expansion probably made it crowded in Oregon City, But, at least they made it and made some new friends!!!

    2. I think most of the pie nearest achieve their goal. Somewhere happy and somewhere not. Bad things happend like dying and diseases. Some of the Indians were mad and some more peaceful. The Oregon Trail was special because if the pioneers didn't go on the Oregon Trail and find the United States we wouldn't be in the United States. have a nice evening

  6. Some pioneers completed their goals not the trail. Some people were happy when they reached Oregon. They were happy to achieve their goal! Others weren't so happy, because, they thought that the first part of the journey was worse than crossing the mountains. But most had past away because of many diseases, animal attacks, and indians that weren't so friendly. The pioneers that were not so happy with their homes wanted to turn back to go home, the pioneers that were happy with their homes wanted to stay in Oregon forever, thinking it's good to finally be in Oregon. I, of course, would be joyful because you've spent six months of you life to get to the place you've wanted to go. They would have also made friends which makes it a more enjoyable journey.

  7. Most pioneers completed their"Manifest Destiny." 1/10 never got to see Oregon! They had escaped into more danger. And danger ain't good.

  8. Di the pioneers achieve there goals... Well some did and some didn't the ones how didn't mostly ether died or starved! And the ones that did make it to Oregon and started a new life! Personally I think that it is worth it to go to Oregon but only if i was a kid not a adult. Why becuse if i survived then i whole have most of my life in Oregon. The west ward expansion was a big hard thing. And when most of our people went west the United States almost doubled in a short amount of time! Also when people got to Oregon there was free land so they could just claim what they wanted! Some of the bad things where that when you got to Oregon there where badly any trees most was just tree stumps every where! And one of the good things was that if you got to Oregon before the crowd you could get a lot of the supplies first like wood and steel and iron stuff like that before people run out of stuff in Oregon city! 10. The pioneers did get there goals but i still fell bed for the Indians because they thought that is was everyones land but the pioneers thought that it was there land.It was also good because the pioneers had to travel six months to get there. But i think it was kind of bazar that if they didn't like it there they would do the trip one more time.

  11. Most of the pioneers completed their goals and some did not complete Them .Its the american duty to spread out land and that's what the pioneers did for us. That was one of their many goals. One of their goals was to spread out land and create a society like today's. I found out that one of their goals was to make a way that you could get to Oregon in just a few days insted of a months. This goal was completed and it turned into the railroad. Some of the pioneers did't achieve their goals like, lots of people died on the trail and everyone's main goal was to get to Oregon and some did not live long enough to reach that goal. One of the reasons that the pioneers moved was because of the free land and back at home their was not enough food, water, iron, steel, or just a place to live! And it was getting to crowded because the population was growing in seconds! I think that if I was a pioneer, when I got to Oregon I would faint on the ground!I would be so tired and wish we could go right back to independence and stay their intil the railroad was built! I think it would be very very hard because we would run out of stuff o the trail. Hope everyone has a good day!

  12. Some liked Oregon. Some didn't. Because some thought traveling there was easy but setting up a home was harder. Some thought Getting to Oregon was hard. some thought this way some the other. There were many casualties along the Oregon trail because of multiple different things. They made lots of friends on the Journey west too! But some just turned back. There were plants, animals, river crossings, and many other obstacles along the trail. But in the end it was worth it. Now the United States has expanded. Many people went to Oregon because President Pulk said "it is Americas manifest destiny to claim the west." Some bad things are that the Indians thought the land belongs to everyone! But the pioneers claimed it for themselves. Then they got worried and then fighting broke out. we don't need fighting. But if the pioneers did not claim the west we would not be here on our blog posting things! Hope everyone has a great day!

  13. I think that that the Pioneers achieved their goals of getting to Oregon but they lost a lot of things and people. I think the hard times for most people were worth it to get to Oregon. Some people were not happy and did not like Oregon and went back home. The changes that the Westward brought were good and bad. A good thing the Pioneers brought were that they could trade with the Indians. A bad thing they brought were that the Pioneers brought diseases with them and made the Indians sick! I think that after everything the Pioneers went through it was all worth it but for the Indians it was not easy living in peace and then all of these people come into their land. After a little while the Indians got sick of helping the Pioneers and some tribes started fighting the Pioneers. Hope you guys have a good day!

  14. I think the pioneers completed their goal but some of them did not make it to Oregon. They interacted with native americans in bad and good ways. Sometimes they fought and sometimes they traded.

  15. Did the pioneers achieve their goals? They achieved some, but lost a few. Most of the pioneers got to Oregon or California like planned, but some people and children died on the trail to the cause of snake bites, food poison, drowning, dieses, and many more. Because so many of the pioneers achieved their goals by getting to Oregon or California that so many of the Native Americans lost their land, coultre, and family. The Native Americans didn't want the pioneers on their land but the Native Americans didn't fight. If I was a Native American I would of not let the pioneers take my land.

  16. The pioneers achieved their goal but some didn't know that getting their is almost harder the the journey its self because they had to mark land cut down trees and build their house but some don't know how to because their used to other people building their house for them. So some hated Oregon and some loved it!

  17. It's a good thing most of the pioneers made it. Either Liking it or not. If none of them did, Part of the U.S wouldn't be here today. In the Unit I liked learning the culture and we even get to make iMovies!

  18. The big idea of the westward expansion was manifest destiny. President James polk said i't was americas duty to manifest destiny. Well it was because americans had always moved west. some people
did others did'nt you have to make the desion.
