Westward Expansion

We have been building background knowledge for our Westward Expansion Unit. We've learned about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. In library, we learned some information about supplies needed to take the six month journey west. What are at least two wonders you would like to investigate further? Please read each other's comments and try not to repeat posts.

  1. One of my wonders was... were there any other people going on the westward expansion besides Lewis and Clark? What year did the president announce that they were going to by more land to the United States? I think that when Lewis and Clark were on there journey that it was kind of like the Organ trail but not going to a certain destination or staying at the destination like the Organ trail.

  2. My first wonder is how many men died and how many survived on the journey? My second wonder is the total of tribes they met on their journey?

  3. I am interested in what sort of diseases they might have gotten on the journey. Also, I would like some information on how many people died and how many people got sick and lived. I also want to know how they got more ammunition if they ran out of it for their trip.

  4. One of my wonders is where Sacagewea went. I read that she went missing and was never seen again. My second wonder is why Lewis took his dog, Seaman, on the expedition. If he cared for his dog, then would he truly put his dog through the dangers ahead???

  5. I think Seaman may have been good for sniffing out trails.

My third wonder is how they used there food wisely. Because they did not have refrigerator's to keep it cold. So it could rote if they kept it for to long. have a nice evening!!

  14. My wonders are that I wonder how about how many people died on the trail. And I wonder did some of them starve to death because some of the people had to leave things behind for space. I have one more and it is that how did louis and clark get the exact map of where they were because then they did not have internet?
