In our read-aloud How to Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor, Georgina's family has fallen on hard times. Georgina wants to help her family have a place to live. Her family needs money. She plans to steal a dog in order to get the reward money so she can pay for apartment rent.
Stealing is against the law. Do you think Georgina's plan is good or bad? Do you think it is ever okay to do something bad in order to do something good? Please share your thoughts on this complicated situation.
I don't think she should steal the dog. And you should not ever steal something because you might think it was a small thing but it could get sirius.
ReplyDeleteI think it is never right to steal but even though she does have a good point it does not mean she should. Even if you think you are doing something small, to that thing it is very sad or hart broken it is eater very valuable or it is very important to he or she family.

DeleteI really don't think that stealing is the correct thing to do. I think that Georgina is going to hide Willy (if she manages to steal him) in the woods where she lives. But, what if willy runs away!? What if the mom finds out!? What if Georgina gives Willy back to his real owner before the owners put out signs.
ReplyDeletebut Claire remember the dog had a tag on him that said where he lived, so if they retuned the dog before the signs were put up the owners would not expect a thing.

DeleteNo, I wouldn't steal a dog. Getting $500 is not worth doing something wrong. You are stealing someone's pet. This is their family and this is not nice. The dog is part of their family. It is not right to steal even for something good.
ReplyDeleteI think that it is very very wrong steel and that even if you need it really really badly you should not do it. I also Georgina's plan is not good. My prediction is that they are going to lose the dog write when they get it or Georgina's bother will tell there mom.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Georgina should steal the dog. If she does I bet she will get caught by the Whitmores. 500 dollars is a lot of money for her family but I bet it still wouldn't be enough money to get them a real house or even an apartment.

I don't think that it is good to do bad for good because the person that is getting robbed will not be happy or feel good.

ReplyDeleteI don't think Georgina should steal the dog even if she's doing it for a reason, it's still not right to steal anything. She has a really good list of things for telling people how to steal a dog, she seems to have a really good plan, and a good reason, but that dosen't mean she should steal the dog Willy. She has a GREAT plan but she should NEVER EVER steal anything at all.

I don't think it was nice of her best friend to spy on her and she really should not steal the dog at all. I'm glad her mom got them a house. But I wonder if she still is going to steal the dog?
